Joining a field of 13 males in this weekend's 73rd running of the $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap at Santa Anita Park is five-year-old mare St. Trinians, winner of seven out of 11 career starts (and earninsgs of $268,587). The Mike Mitchell trained mare most recently won the Santa Maria Handicap and if she crosses the finish line first on March 6 she will become the first female to do so in the history of the Big 'Cap.
Undefeated in four starts since coming to the United States from England, St Trinians will start from post two with jockey Joel Rosario.
"If there is a question," Mitchell said, "it's if she can go a mile and a quarter, and I think she can, the way she finished winning the Santa Maria."
