With the elimination of Dean Hamrick in 10th place ($591,869), the final table has been set for the 2008 WSOP Main Event. The so-called "November Nine" will reconvene on November 9, 2008, to complete this tournament over a two-day period and battle for the $9.1 million first-place prize. During that time, these nine poker players will be hyped, mortgaged and ingrained into the collective poker consciousness. They will be made famous, and they have to be because only one of them is even mildly recognizable.
Leading the way into the battle for the most coveted prize in poker is Dennis Phillips, who sits with 26,295,000 in chips. In second place is Ivan Demidov with 24,400,000 in chips, followed by Scott Montgomery with 19.69 million. Peter Eastgate is in the next spot with roughly 18.3 and after him are Ylon Schwartz and Darus Suharto who both have about 12.5 million. That one sort-of-recognizable name is David "Chino" Rheem who is in the eight spot with 10.23 million and the short stack is Craig Marquis, who has just 200k less than Chino at 10.21 million.
We, of course, will do a much more thorough introduction of these players within the next couple of weeks, but only after we get some sleep. Each player walks with ninth place money, or $900,670. Including sponsorship deals, there are now nine new millionaires walking the earth and we'll have to see what happens when they walk back to the Rio for the final table in November.
This concludes our live coverage of the 2008 WSOP, we'll be back soon. You won't know when and you won't know where, but you will know that it will be tomorrow. We're magical like that.
