WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel just stood up to announce the official entrant number of 6,494 for the 2009 WSOP Main Event. This number is 350 less than last year, a number that could easily have been a zero, or a negative, if Harrah's had let more people register. But what's done is done.

The top 648 places wil get paid out, starting at $21k. Making the final table in November guarantees at least $1.2 million and the 2009 WSOP Champion will receive $8.5 million. Not too shabby considering the state of the economy.
