The Orange County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving hosted its annual "Hold 'Em, Fold 'Em, Save 'Em" poker tournament last weekend. The yearly event is designed to raise funds for various programs hosted by MADD, including counseling for victims of drunk driving and prevention efforts such as posters, pamphlets, etc. The Orange County Register reports that nearly $4,000 was raised at the event, held in the Tustin Community Center.
"I have two small children at home," MADD assistant development officer Peggy Jensen said. "Because I'm in Tustin and my children are in Tustin I wanted to, myself, show them that drinking and driving is not the way to go."
Another poker event in California featured the music industry getting together to support Sound Art LA, a youth-oriented music foundation. Over a hundred producers, engineers, musicians and audio manufacturers attended and sponsored the event, hosted at The Village Recorders studio by Dave Reitzas, a Grammy-Award winning engineer. A few hours of play left songwriter Jody Whitesides the winner. He received a Telefunken Elektroakustik C-12 microphone system.
After the event, Reitzas said: "My goal of creating a fun day where the people of our industry get to see each other face to face has far exceeded my expectations and I am humbled by the support for this event. Thanks everybody!"
