The WPT Doyle Brunson 5 Diamond World Poker Classic (which once again will hereafter be referred to as the WPTDB5DWPC) ended up bringing out a total of 329 players, about 75 less than last year. However, despite the smaller numbers, many big names came out to compete in the $15,000 buy-in event to try and claim the $1.42 million first-place prize.
In striking distance to accomplish just that after two full days of play is poker pro Daniel Alaei, who is currently the chip leader with 1.86 million in chips. Not too far behind him are fellow poker pros Josh Arieh, Scotty Nguyen and John Juanda. Other notables in the chip counts include Matt "AllInAt420" Stout, Chad "lilholdem954" Batista, Antonio Esfandiari and Hasan Habib. There are currently only 36 players left in the field and there is a potential for a great final table.
The money bubble bursts with 27 players remaining and look for that to happen sooner rather than later with the way the action has been going so far in this event. Stay tuned for more updates and check out Bodog Flight Club for WPT prize packages.
