The World Series of Poker is heading back across the pond this fall for the WSOP Europe and the dates for that sojourn have just been announced by Harrah's. The series will begin on Sept. 19 and will run through Oct. 1 with the tournaments taking place once again at the Empire, Fifty and Sportsman casinos in London.
Last year's record-breaking event saw Norwegian online poker femme fatale Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad become the first-ever WSOP Europe Main Event champion, receiving the largest prize ever won by a female poker player at £1 million ($2,013,102).
German Thomas Bihl took down Event No. 1 - H.O.R.S.E - also winning the first-ever WSOP bracelet awarded outside of the U.S. To complete the European dominance of the WSOPE, Italian Dario Alioto took home the bracelet for Event No. 2 - Pot Limit Omaha.
“It was a clean sweep for the Europeans last year,” said World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. “There are many, many talented players in the European poker community and I think it caught some of the world’s best known poker players by surprise. It’s safe to say the pros haven’t forgotten about last year and the young guns should expect a tougher fight in 2008.”
You can be sure that Bodog will once again offer online poker players the chance of a lifetime to live the Bodog lifestyle in London and take on those talented European players. For now, all sights are set on the 2008 WSOP in Las Vegas, and there are at least four WSOP seats up for grabs every week in March and April with that number jumping to five per week in May and June. In total, over 100 seats will be awarded.
Online poker players can buy into a WSOP Semifinal directly for $270 or qualify into that tournament through a series of smaller satellites starting for as little as $1.50. So head over to the Bodog Poker room and qualify online for the 2008 WSOP.
