The Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic's WPT Doyle Brunson Classic Championship (BFDWPCWPTDBCC) is now done and over with and there are two new WPT millionaires out there. Taking home the top spot was Brooklyn-resident Eugene Katchalov after riding his chip lead to victory from beginning to end.
It only took 53 hands for Katchalov to claim the $2,482,605 first-place prize and dispose of Ted Kearly in second place ($1,252,640); during which time he held an unbalanced lead over the entire table that included going into heads-up play with a 5 to 1 advantage.
The first to fall victim was the short-stack Ryan Daut ($192,715), who pushed his very short-stack in the middle early on and couldn't catch any luck. He was surprisingly followed by online poker pro Jordan "OctavianC" Rich ($289,070), who went from one of the chip leaders to out of the final table in just two key hands. Next to exit was Ken Rosen ($433,675) after he fell victim to the monster stack of "Catch A Lot" Katchalov, who rivered two pair to put him out. In third place fell David "Devilfish" Ulliott, who made an impressive showing by working his way up from being a short-stack to cash out for $674,500.
As a result of steamrolling the final table Katchalov also set a record for the fastest final table win in WPT history, beating Doyle Brunson's record at the tournament bearing the poker legend's name.
Along with the more than $2 million in prize money, Katchalov also received a $25,000 seat in the 2008 World Poker Tour World Championship, which will take place at the Bellagio in April, and a fancy trophy.
