Glen Witmer Wins WPT North American Poker Championships

The WPT North American Poker Championships have wrapped up and there is now another new WPT-Made Millionaire crowned. Amateur poker player Glen Witmer beat out poker pro Gavin Smith to take down the $1,090,589 first-place prize and the fancy trophy.

Coming into the tournament as a complete unknown in the poker world with no major poker tournament cashes to his name, Witmer patiently played his game and eventually started accumulating chips on Day 4. He would end up finishing the day with the chip lead to head into the final table and would not relinquish his hold on that until he grasped the piles of cash on the table in front of him. This is by far the largest tournament cash for Witmer as really anything is more than zero.

The finish was obviously a disappointing one for Smith as he was really focused on collecting his second WPT trophy. However, the $532,545 that he received for second place will definitely help him sleep well, and soberly. The same goes for third-place finisher Kathy Liebert, who continued to cement herself as the highest-earning female poker player in tournament play but still fell short of her ultimate goal of winning a WPT title. Disappointing no doubt, but again the $277,684 will help soothe that frustration.
