Some poker players battle with success on the tables for years before they build their game into a system that shows profit. Others seem to be able to pick up the game with ease, and in a short time begin to reap some of the rewards that the game can provide. One potential poker prodigy is Tournament Leader Board (TLB) Monthly Freeroll winner Brandy “ParliGod” Savage. He’s won his way into the WSOP main event, and currently sits in third position on the Bodog (TLB).
Brandy is a 28-year-old professional poker player who has recently graduated from law school. He’s had enough success playing in online MTT’s to give poker a try before moving ahead with a law career. A friend introduced the game to him during his second year of law school, and he found the game a nice break from the rigors of studying for the bar.
“A friend asked me if I wanted to learn how to play poker, and I said ”˜Sure’. He loaned me a couple of poker books, one by Doyle Brunson (Super System) and another by Sklansky.”
Savage plays a moderate workload of daily MTT’s. He says that he starts his day at 11am and will usually play until midnight, depending on how the action goes. He’ll play around six tournaments at once for an average total of 25 per day. And after a few days in row of that, he’ll take some time off.
“I specialize in tournaments. The only cash games I play are smaller limit games, mostly Pot Limit Omaha as a change of pace from the hold’em tournaments.”
Savage hopes to play more live action in the future. He’s currently limited from live tournaments because of his geographic location in Walnut Creek, California. Like many online players, he’s forced to plan a special trip for live action, and isn’t quite in the position to make a go of it in Vegas or Los Angeles where there are lots of live events.
“I’ve had success in live events, but most of them have had 100 players or less. I would like to play a lot more of them, and of course someday win a WSOP bracelet.”
He’ll get a taste of big live event poker at the WSOP when he joins Team Bodog in the Main Event. He plans on taking full advantage of his first trip to the big poker show by taking in some other action before he plays the main event.
“I’m looking forward to the WSOP. I plan on playing a couple of the smaller events too, maybe I’ll fly up there in late May and play in the first big no limit hold’em event. Then go back home and return for the main event.”
With only three years playing experience, Brady “Parligod” Savage is certainly one to keep an eye on. We’ll see if he’s ready to take his success playing online multi-table tournaments and transition that to the biggest prize pools in the game.
