The largest buy-in event of the 2008 WSOP Europe so far - £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha - is currently on a dinner break on Day 2 and, just like the lower buy-in events, features several big name pros. The event drew 165 players and there are currently only 23 remaining.
Among that handful of players left are big names like Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Allen Cunningham, Alexander Kranchenko, Sorel Mizzi and Max Pescatori. However, the name everyone should be focusing on is Jason Mercier. He ended Day 1 on top of the heap and has managed to hold on to that lead for the entirety of Day 2 so far. At age 21, he already has an impressive list of credits to his name including a win at EPT San Remo ($1.1 million), four WSOP cashes over this past summer (roughly $60k) and another EPT final table in Barcelona ($322,123).
Mercier currently has an almost 200k chip lead over Shaun Deeb in second place and the rest of the field will have quite a mountain to climb in they hope to catch up with him. However, as is the nature of Pot Limit Omaha, the swings in this game are huge and the poker gods can be whimsical on who they bestow their favor, so the game is still anyone's.
