Last time we reported on Jose Severino’s performance in the WSOP $2K NL Holdem event he was in the top 10 with 130,000 in chips. Since then he has continued to amass chips like crazy going all the way to first place for a while. Just before the dinner break he lost a 55,000 pot and a couple other players made some gains causing him to slip back a bit to fifth place.

There are currently 70 players left out of the original field of 2317. The bubble burst earlier today when the field was chopped down to the final 198. The winner of this event will be getting $770,540, not to mention a shiny new WSOP bracelet.

Current chip leaders are Eric Crain with 485,000, Sergey Rybachenko with 370,000, Adam Katz with 355,000, Sverre Sundbo with 316,000 and of course Team Bodog’s Jose Severino with 295,000.

We are pretty confident that the smart money is on Severino and we’re abandoning any pretence of objectivity and saying we hope like hell he takes the whole thing down and wins his first WSOP bracelet. Not that it has anything to do with the fact that we’ll be joining him in the epic celebration should he win.

Stay tuned to the Beat for more WSOP updates.
