For once there's actually a decent amount of poker news to report on today, so we'll run through it all and try to keep you up to date on as much as possible from around the poker world.
2010 WSOP Schedule: Harrah's announced yesterday the schedule for the 2010 World Series of Poker. There are some new additions and tweaks to the schedule, including a $50,000 Player's Championship as the first event, which replaces the HORSE event but will still be played in an eight-game format with a No Limit Holdem final table and will award the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy. New to the schedule on the high end is a $25,000 6-Handed No Limit Holdem event and on the lower end the first six weekends of the WSOP will play host to a $1,000 No Limit Holdem event to try and attract the weekend warriors and low stakes amateurs.
The WSOP will also feature a much-expanded footprint as tables will now also be set up in the entire convention area at the Rio, including the 58,000-square-foot Pavilion Ballroom and the 38,000-square-foot Amazon Room. This will allow for roughly 20% more tables to be set up and will hopefully eliminate the trek to Buzios during the larger events. The Poker Kitchen will also be moved back inside, to the Miranda Room, so no more walking through clouds of smoke to get something to eat. Read more at WSOP.com.
The WPT Doyle Brunson 5 Diamond World Poker Classic (WPTDB5DWPC) at the Bellagio has 16 players remaining. Sitting in the top spot is Curt Kohlberg with 2.8 million in chips, followed by Faraz Jaka with 2.7 million. Notables still lurking include Daniel Alaei (3rd - 2.4 million), John Juanda (4th - 1.8 million), Chad Batista (5th - 1.5 million), Josh Arieh (7th - 1 million), Mike "SowersUNCC" Sowers (12th - 661k) and Scotty Nguyen (15th - 339k). Play will get back underway today and will wrap up when the six players who will make up the WPT televised final table are set.
