Poker Pro Erick Lindgren Wins $350k Golf Prop Bet During 2007 WSOP

Prop bets at the World Series of Poker are as common as house flies (like the ones in the media room). You can find poker players seeking takers on anything from the color of a given flop during a hand to the more serious last-longer bets. No matter the wager, poker pros are all over it because, above all else, they are action junkies. This latest prop bet came about during the $50k HORSE event at the 2007 WSOP and mainly involved poker pros Erick Lindgren, Gavin Smith and Phil Ivey. It was reported on exclusively by WickedChopsPoker.com, and here is what they had to say about the origins of Erick and Gavin's prop bet:

As with most great prop bets, this one came from nowhere. Lindgren, Gavin and a few others were out drinking. Lindgren mentioned how unhappy he was with his performance in the H.O.R.S.E. event and to punish himself, he was just going to play golf all day. The bet ensued. Lindgren accepted.

The skinny on the bet is that Erick had to play four rounds of golf back-to-back-to-back at Bear's Best (one of the tougher courses in Vegas) and shoot under 100 for each round of play. Gavin was in for $100k, Ivey agreed over the phone to $200k and then several others added on for smaller amounts. Needless to say, he accomplished this feat and collected about $340k in wagers, with some buyouts happening at the end when it became obvious that he would win. Erick is now back at the poker tables today at the Rio and looking a little tired. Rumor is he's a little grumpy.
