After nine holes of high stakes golf at the Doyle Brunson & Dewey Tomko Invitational, it was the team with the old time gamblers who invited everyone to the event who came out on top - imagine that.
The grouping of Doyle Brunson, Dewey Tomko and Vince Van Patten walked away with $1 million for holing a birdie on the 9th hole. Bodogpoker pro Josh Arieh and his teammates, Daniel Negreanu and Erick Lindgren, came very close to pushing the match to a $3 million sudden death hole but Josh could not convert his 20-footer for birdie and watched as Doyle rolled his in for the grand prize.
With so much to gamble on the course, things were made interesting quickly. On top of the prop bets being placed on the sidelines by the spectators, there were rumors of $2 million side bets between some of the participants themselves. And with rules in place that forced Phil Hellmuth to take a putter to an approach shot from the fairway, the ESPN broadcast of the match beginning on Oct. 21st will be a must-see.
Here is a breakdown of the scoring per hole:
Hole #1 - Push
Hole #2 – Doyle/Dewey/Vince
Hole #3 – Push
Hole #4 - Erick/Daniel/Josh
Hole #5 – Push
Hole #6 – Push
Hole #7 - Phil/Billy/Russ
