The throngs of people gathered outside of the poker room at the Hilton Prague for Day 1B of the EPT Prague gave some indication that today could be a huge day in EPT history. However, no one realized how big of a day until every head had actually been counted.
PokerNews.com is reporting an official count of 314 for Day 1B, which gives us a total number of 555 for the tournament. That makes the 2007 EPT Prague not only the largest event so far this season, but also the second largest EPT event ever, behind only the EPT Grand Final from last season. All of this very impressive for a tournament that is not even being filmed for television.
Big names spotted in amongst this huge field include Thomas Wahlroos, online poker pro Bertrand "elky" Grospellier, Luca Pagano, Juha Helppi, Dario Minieri and EPT Warsaw winner from last season Peter Jepsen. Several have already hit the rail including Thor Hansen, Barny Boatman and WSOP Europe champion Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad.
Payouts have been announced along with the official count. First place will receive €708,400 ($1.03 million) all the way down to €6,380 ($9,335) for 56th place.
Early chip leader is Cristiano Blanco but there is still plenty of poker to play before all eight blind levels of the day are finished. Live updates are available over at PokerNews.com and PokerListings.com.
