The next stop on the European Poker Tour is underway at the Casino Copenhagen in Denmark and the sold-out field of 460 entrants has set a Scandinavian prizepool record at just over $4 million.
Within that field are a large number of recognizable face, including Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu, Mel Judah, Thor Hansen, 2007 WSOP final tablist Philip Hilm, Noah Boeken, Bill Chen, Russian poker pro Alex Kravchenko, EPT Baden champ Julian Thew, Sorel "imper1um" Mizzi, Dario Minieri, Dag Martin Mikkelsen, Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad, Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier and EPT Barcelona Champion Sander Lyloff. Team Bodog's own Joe "Dyzalot" Morneau, winner of a $12,000 Bodog "Player's Choice" package, is in the field and we'll keep you up to date on his progress.
According to PokerNews.com, a ceremony was held the night before to award the second annual Scandinavian Poker Awards, as voted on by Scandi poker journalists. The results were as follows:
Best Live Player - Gus Hansen
Best Online Player - Jonas "Nebuchad" Danielsson
Best Female - Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad
Rookie of the Year - Trond Erik Eidsvig
Best Performance - Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad
Lifetime Achievement Award - Thor Hansen
While we were writing these last few sentences, some notable bust-outs already happened: Obrestad, Jedlicka and "imper1um" are all gone. Luckily for Obrestad, she's not far from home, and she got two awards so she's not leaving empty-handed, but Mizzi has to trek back to Canada with nothing to show for his trip.
Stay tuned for more updates and, hopefully, we'll see some good action come out of this tournament. Check the Bodog Poker Tournament Schedule for the "Player's Choice" daily qualifiers, some for as little as $1, and your next chance to qualify online for an EPT or WPT event or the 2008 WSOP.
