The WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals Begin Tomorrow

After wrapping up the North American Poker Championships over the weekend, the World Poker Tour is taking just enough of a break to get all of their stuff down the Eastern seaboard to Connecticut to set up for the $10,000 buy-in Main Event of the Foxwoods World Poker Finals.
This event has been on the WPT schedule since the first season and has traditionally been one of the more popular stops on the tour; last year's event drew 609 players, the year before attracted 783. Among those large fields are a good number of big name poker pros.
Over the past five years, the final table of this event has featured its fair share of poker star power including Howard Lederer, Layne Flack, Andy Bloch, Phil Ivey, Hoyt Corkins, Phil Hellmuth, Tuan Le, Humberto Brenes, David Pham, J.C. Tran and Allen Cunningham. These players have good reason to turn out as the payouts in this tournament have consistently been among the highest on tour.
In 2005, winner Nick Schulman took home $2.16 million and in 2006, Nenad Medic was awarded $1.71 million for his win. This event also marks a homecoming of sorts for the WPT as the last three tournaments have all been outside of the U.S. - Spain, Turks & Caicos and Canada, respectively.
In fact, even though it is technically a "world" tour, all the events except for the aforementioned three are held within the U.S. So, for the tour to be gone from the U.S. since Sept. 25 means that it is starting to get a bit homesick. The tournament will feature two Day 1 flights with the final table taking place on Day 6, which will be Nov. 13 after a scheduled day off, and Foxwoods is kicking in $20,000 to the prizepool.
