WSOP Circuit Event Sends Big Name Poker Pros Home Early

Poker pro Lee Watkinson is one of the few name players who has moved onto Day 2 of the WSOP Circuit Event in Rincon. (Bodog Beat Image)
And here we go again. We thought that maybe the major poker tournaments had gotten their acts together to start providing us with some decent post fodder what with Gavin Griffin becoming the first-ever Triple Crown Winner (WSOP, WPT and EPT) and Michael "timex" McDonald's win at the EPT German Open, but no. They are determined to disappoint us at every step, including the $5,000 buy-in championship tournament at the WSOP Circuit Event in Rincon, CA..
Check out this list of players: 2007 WSOP Player of the Year Tom "DonkeyBomber" Schneider, LA Lakers owner Jerry Buss, Bluff Magazine's 2007 Player of the Year Bill Edler, Layne Flack, Alex Jacob, Erick Lindgren, Anna Wroblewski, Allen Kessler, Chad Brown, Ted Lawson, Roy Winston, Brandon Cantu, Peter "nordberg" Feldman, Jeff Madsen, 2007 WSOP Main Event champion Jerry Yang (wow, he actually showed up for something) and John "The Razor" Phan. Awesome right? You know what would be more awesome? If they hadn't all busted out on Day 1 of the tournament. With only 148 players entered.
Exactly.
Now look, we're not trying to denigrate the 27 remaining players, but there are only a few recognizable names left, which is what you guys want to read about and what we like to write about. Technically there are three recognizable names left, Gavin Smith, Lee Watkinson and Vanessa Rousso. If you follow online poker a lot, then throw Peter "#1Pen" Neff in the mix 'cos you should know who he is. Plus, he's the only one of these four that is in the top 10.
Speaking of which, here's that top 10 with chip counts:
1. Kenny Bedoya – 438,400
2. Peter Neff – 251,000
3. Michael Pickett – 215,200
4. Kyle Orvis – 174,000
5. Matthew Hyman – 168,100
6. David Peters – 162,300
7. Jon Eaton – 147,400
8. Edward Sabat – 113,100
9. Doug Caillier – 110,700
10. Evan Scwartz – 108,600
Play resumes at 2pm local time (which will be 5pm ET) and the final 27 will play down the the nine that will make up the final table. We're rooting for you guys.
