Sally Boyer has captured the No Limit Hold'em World Championship Ladies Event event at the 2007 World Series of Poker. Taking everything that she learned from the World Series of Poker Academy Ladies Event that she attended just days ago, she has turned the $1,699 camp registration fee into a $262,077 first-place prize, a WSOP bracelet and a Corum watch.
The Midway, Utah cowgirl battled through a 1,286 person field and entered the final table with an above-average chip stack. From there she waited patiently, picking her spots carefully and moving up the leader board until she was found herself up against Anne Heft for the title. After about 40 minutes of heads-up play that saw more action than the entire final table itself, Sally caught the card she needed to put Anne out and claim victory.
The newest bracelet winner credits her victory to the instruction she received at the World Series of Poker Academy.
"It gave me a lot more confidence at the table and helped me with strategy," she said. "Things like pot odds, table demeanor and what to look for when reading someone."
This combined with the time spent playing online poker at Bodog gave her the ability to face experienced female poker players with the confidence of a veteran. This semi-retired businesswoman could now definitely call her retirement permanent if she so desired.
