Federer tied Pete Sampras' record of 14 major singles titles and became the sixth man to complete a career Grand Slam.
Federer, listed at -500 on Sunday, was at his best, completely outplaying No. 23-seeded Robin Soderling (+350) of Sweden en route to a 6-1, 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory in a French Open final that lacked suspense but not significance.
Federer is now pegged as a +100 favorite to win Wimbledon this year.
On Saturday in the women's final Svetlana Kuznetsova took advantage of No. 1-ranked Dinara Safina's assorted errors and won the French Open final 6-4, 6-2. The 74-minute match ended, fittingly, with Safina's seventh double-fault.
Safina was the one who was supposed to finally make her breakthrough after losing in the women's final at last year's French Open and this year's Australian Open.
