Alfonso Soriano was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. The Chicago Cubs outfielder strained his right calf on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds and had to be helped from the field.

The injury was a result of the freaky little hop Soriano makes before he catches each ball. He says it helps his concentration and that he started doing it after making the positional switch from second baseman to outfielder.

"I came up with that because every time in batting practice I was waiting for a ball to come down I'd drop it," Soriano said. "I said to myself, 'I don't want to wait for the ball to come to me. I'll get it.' "

Sorinao is currently hitting .175 with two homeruns, five RBIs, and two stolen bases.

GM Jim Hendry told the Chicago Tribune Soriano would be back sooner than later.

"At the same time, we didn't want to rush him in seven or eight days and risk re-injuring him."
