All is holding according to form in the women’s draw at the Australian Open.
No. 1 seed Justine Henin breezed to a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Olga Poutchkova during Wednesday’s early action at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Henin was a massive -8000 favorite on the moneyline (meaning a winning tennis bet of $8,000 was required to win just $100).
Henin needed just 22 minutes to take the first set en route to her 30th straight victory and a berth in the third round. She holds Australian Open odds of 5/4 to win it all.
She was the first top seed in action on Wednesday.
Winners on Tuesday in the women’s draw included Venus Williams, who beat Zi Yan, 6-2, 7-5, and No. 2 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, who beat Nathalie Dechy, 6-3, 6-1.
