BCS National Championship Betting: Why Texas Will Win

The Texas Longhorns have one of the best quarterbacks in college football in Colt McCoy and he will have to be at his best for the Longhorns to win.

The two-time Heisman finalist completed 70 percent of his passes and was also the team’s second-leading rusher with 348 yards. It’s unlikely Texas’ inconsistent running game will find traction against Alabama, so the Longhorns’ hopes are firmly in McCoy’s hands.

Texas is a 4-point underdog in this contest but they have never lost to Alabama in eight meetings.

The Longhorns’ run defense ranks No. 1 in the nation at 62 yards allowed per game and ”˜Bama is No. 2 at 78 yards allowed per game. Texas has to maintain that kind of defense if they are going to pull off the upset.

The Longhorns topped the Football Bowl Subdivision with 24 interceptions, led by junior Earl Thomas with eight and fellow safety Blake Gideon with five.
