The fat lady has sung for the Houston Rockets, as their 22-game winning streak ended when the Boston Celtics earned a 94-74 victory on Tuesday night. The Rockets hadn't lost since a defeat to Utah in January, which had then put them in NBA's second-longest winning streak.
The game's big players included Kevin Garnett, who scored 22 points and Paul Pierce who earned Boston another 20 points.
Luis Scola scored 15 points for the Rockets, who lost for the first time in 11 games since Yao Ming injured his foot in February.
One of the game's pivotal moments came with just 3:18 left in the third quarter, when Tracey McGrady and Scola both jumped to block Tony Allen, who dove at the baseline. McGrady blocked the ball, but Scola hit Allen. The referee called a flagrant foul on Scola as Allen remained laying on the floor for several minutes. He finally got up and scored two free throws to put Boston up 64-52.
