Brian Burke, Todd Bertuzzi Part Ways In Anaheim

The Anaheim Ducks placed left winger Todd Bertuzzi on waivers Friday in an attempt to buy out the last year of the 33-year-old's contract.

By the time the former Canuck had cleared waivers on Saturday, no team had reportedly claimed him or the $4M contracted that had prompted Ducks general manager Brian Burke to make the decision.

Bertuzzi registered 40 points in 68 games last season as the Ducks sought to defend their Stanley Cup championship, but Burke - adamant in a Friday press conference - insists the move was strictly financial.

Without the burdensome contract Bertuzzi is a valuable asset for teams looking to add an additional piece to their rotation.

Up next on Anaheim's agenda is resigning fourth-year right winger Corey Perry who finished last season with 54 points.

The Ducks will then turn their attention to 37-year-old Teemu Selanne, who they hope will decide to return to the club for one more year like defensemen Scott Neidermayer did this week.
