How hot are the Louisville Cardinals?

The 13th-ranked team in the nation allowed 40 points to Luke Harangody on Thursday night and still won. The Cardinals ran their winning streak to eight games with a 90-85 victory over Harangody and No. 17 Notre Dame in Louisville, Ky.

David Padgett’s 26 points led the Cardinals, who moved into a first-place tie with Georgetown in the Big East. The key to Louisville’s win was its defense on Fighting Irish guard Kyle McAlarney, who was held to seven points and was only 1-for-8 on three-point attempts. McAlarney was coming off a school-record nine three-pointers against Syracuse.

The point spread favored Louisville (23-6, 13-3 Big East) by 7.5; the betting total was way over 148 points.

Harangody, a leading candidate for Big East Player of the Year, grabbed 12 boards as he recorded a double-double for the 17th time this season. Still it wasn’t enough as Notre Dame fell to 21-6 (11-4 Big East).
