The Pitt Panthers clearly didn’t like being underdogs at home. Facing the fifth-ranked Georgetown Hoyas, the resilient Panthers relied on defense and strong guard play to pull a 69-60 upset in Big East play Monday night.

The point spread listed the Hoyas as 2.5 favorites over No. 15 Pitt, which has withstood losses to top scorers Levance Fields and Mike Cook. But the depth of Jamie Dixon’s squad is showing. Pitt ran its home winning streak to 13 games and improved to 4-1 with Ronald Ramon taking Fields’ spot at point guard.

Ramon and Keith Benjamin both contributed 18 points and freshman DeJuan Blair posted 15 points and nine boards. Blair also hung tough with 7-foot Georgetown center Roy Hibbert, who was held to 12 points.
