The Washington State Cougars continue to claw their way back in the rankings. Having climbed as high as fourth in the nation, the Cougars suffered a string of losses that dropped them down the run in a steep decline.
But No. 17 Washington State is starting to show the dominant form it had in the early season. Thanks to a defense that’s ranked third in the nation, the Cougars stymied Pac-10 rival Arizona State in the second half and polished off a 59-47 victory in Pullman, Wash.
Derrick Low scored 15 points and the Cougars allowed only 21 points after intermission. Washington State (21-5) had eight steals and limited the Sun Devils (16-9) to 33-percent shooting from the floor.
The Cougars covered the point spread, which favored them by 10.
