College Basketball Odds: No. 3 Kentucky Set to Make NCAA History

NCAA history could be made tonight. If Kentucky beats Drexel, the Wildcats become the first program to win 2,000 games.

Here’s all that is facing Drexel, a middle of the pack Colonial Athletic Association team, tonight in Lexington: unbeaten Kentucky, a team with one of the best freshman recruiting classes ever and shooting to become the first program in NCAA history to win 2,000 games – with a raucous crowd of 24,000 or so on hand to hopefully witness history. The Wildcats are -18 on Bodog’s college basketball odds.

UK is sitting on 1,999 wins, and the milestone seems a lock to come tonight against one of Kentucky coach John Calipari’s former assistants and the guy who succeeded Calipari at Massachusetts in 1996, James “Bruiser” Flint.

Led by freshman and likely 2010 NBA No. 1 overall pick John Wall (18.0 points per game, 7.0 assists – second in the nation -- and 4.1 rebounds), Kentucky already has beaten two NCAA powers in North Carolina and Connecticut this season and is off to its best start in 16 years. Kentucky (11-0, 4-5 ATS) has been beating its opponents by an average of more than 15 points and is among the national leaders in rebound margin and blocked shots.

Drexel (6-5, 5-4-1 ATS) has won three straight, but its only game against competition even close to Kentucky was a 77-58 blowout loss at Villanova. The Dragons have four starters back from last year’s 15-14 team. Guard Jamie Harris is the only Drexel player scoring in double figures (15.1 ppg), as the Dragons are near the bottom in the country in shooting percentage and 3-pointers made per game.

When making your college basketball bet on this one, it’s really all about motivation. If UK is tight because it is trying too hard to reach the 2,000-win milestone, then Drexel has a shot at covering. But Kentucky’s Wall, Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins all present impossible mismatches for undersized Drexel.
