College Basketball Odds: No. 23 Miami (Fla.) at Virginia Tech

I’m not sure what the NCAA college coaches who vote in the ESPN/USA Today poll are waiting for as they don’t have the Miami Hurricanes ranked – the same Canes who have won seven games in a row and are 15-1 for the first time in 50 years. UM, which is No. 23 in the AP poll, has a tough ACC test on Wednesday night at Virginia Tech, which has opened as a 3.5-point betting favorite on Bodog’s college basketball odds.

Miami (6-2 ATS) enters off a last-second home win over a Wake Forest team that had won seven in a row. But poll voters are skeptical of this team because UM’s non-conference schedule was the worst of any BCS conference team (ranked No. 338 overall). The Hurricanes’ loss came in their only road game against a major conference team: at Boston College in their ACC opener. Miami’s go-to guy is forward Dwayne Collins, who leads UM in scoring (12.9 points per game) and ranks seventh in the ACC in rebounding (8.6). The Hurricanes also shoot well from long distance, leading the ACC in three-pointers made with 140, but are lousy at the free-throw line.

Virginia Tech (12-2, 1-2 ATS at home) had a nine-game winning streak snapped at North Carolina on Sunday. The Hokies’ best player is guard Malcolm Delaney, who leads the team in scoring (ACC-leading 20.2 ppg) and assists (3.7). However, the Hokies sometimes struggle to find points from anyone other than Delaney.

When making your college basketball bet at Bodog on this game, know that the Hokies have beaten Miami three times in a row, with two of those coming last year (in the ACC Tournament and at Miami). But Miami won the last meeting in Blacksburg and is 4-3 there all-time. UM is also 2-0 against Virginia Tech when ranked in the AP’s Top 25.
