If ever an unbeaten team appeared vulnerable to an upset it was Hawaii on Friday night. The Warriors entered their game against Nevada knowing their quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate would only be available for part-time use because of a concussion. Plus, they were on the road, playing a capable opponent.
But No. 13 Hawaii survived, barely.
A 45-yard field goal by Dan Kelly with 11.7 seconds left lifted the Warriors to a 28-26 win in Reno, Nev. Hawaii improved to 10-0, but failed to cover the point spread, which was six. The betting total was a whopping 75 points.
Colt Brennan only attempted two passes, completing both for a total of 21 yards. In his place, Tyler Graunke was sharp, throwing for 358 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for one score.
Luke Lippincott had given the Wolf Pack a 26-25 lead with 8:27 to play in the fourth quarter when he scored on a five-yard TD run. But Graunke and the Warriors rallied for the win.
