College Football Odds: Florida State at Boston College

Will the real Florida State Seminoles please stand up? Is FSU the team that went out to Provo, Utah, a few weeks ago and stomped all over then-Top-10 BYU, or are the Seminoles more the team that has been terrible at home: a loss to Miami, a very close win over I-AA Jacksonville State and a shocking loss to South Florida last week?
In an attempt to boost a struggling running game, FSU has returned sophomore running back Jermaine Thomas to the starting spot. Thomas started the opener but lost his job to Ty Jones while nursing various injuries; Thomas was FSU's leading rusher last season. The Seminoles ran for an embarrassing 19 yards in last week's loss to South Florida, and Thomas had just one carry.

Florida State, which is -4 on Bodog's college football odds, probably can't afford to start conference play 0-2 if it hopes to reach the ACC title game. The good news is that FSU isn't ranked this week: It is 2-0 and averages 36.5 points per season when unranked and 0-2 while averaging 20.5 points when in the Top 25.
BC will be without starting cornerback Roderick Rollins (injured hamstring) for the game, and that could be bad news against the ACC's leading passer, Christian Ponder, who has completed 92 of 139 passes this season for 1,082 yards, four touchdowns and just one interception. But FSU really isn't hitting on the big play, with just one completion over 50 yards.
Look for the Seminole defense to put all kinds of pressure on BC 25-year-old freshman QB Dave Shinskie, who in his first start last week threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns in Boston College's 27-24 victory over Wake Forest. Of course, blitzing results in big plays, and the FSU has allowed 20 plays of 29 yards or more in four games.
When doing your football betting at Bodog, there are a few pretty unique trends to be aware of in the FSU-Boston College rivalry since both joined the ACC: The visiting team has won each of the previous four meetings, and the winner in all four has scored a touchdown first and also had a defensive touchdown. All four games have been decided by 11 points or less.
