Dirk Nowitzki Suspended; Somewhere, David Hasselhoff is Crying

Dirk Nowitzki has been suspended for brandishing his tongue. Nah, I'm just jerking ya. It was because he fouled Andrei Kirilenko really hard. (AP Images)

Das ist aber schade.

It means "that's a shame" in German.

In Dallas, it means "we're kind of screwed." At least on Thursday night anyways, when the Mavericks will be without leading scorer Dirk Nowtizki for a key divisional game against in-state rivals Houston.

Dirk Diggler was suspended for one game after his flagrant foul during a Monday night loss to the Jazz in Utah. Nowitzki clotheslined Andrei Kirilenko on a layup attempt, a move that sent the Russian to hospital for x-rays on a damaged right hip. AK-47 is now listed as day-to-day.

Nowitzki was initially tagged with a flagrant-1 foul, which allowed him to continue playing the game while Kirilenko was shipped off in a wheelchair. But a day later, the league reviewed the play and decided to upgrade it to a flagrant-2. Had Dirk been hit with a flagrant-2 at the time, he would've been ejected.

It's not great news for Dallas, who have lost three straight games, albeit against tough opponents in San Antonio, Utah and the Los Angeles Lakers.
