Doug Christie Thinks Lakers/Kings Game 6 Rigged

Anyone remember Doug Christie? You know, the former Sacramento King with a wife that has him on very, very short leash. Well, he's decided to chime in on the notion that Game 6 in the 2002 NBA Western Conference Finals was rigged.

"I would definitely say that there was something going on beyond a poorly officiated game," Christie told Sporting News in a phone interview Friday afternoon. "Look at the statistics. This week, everyone made a big deal out of the Lakers shooting 10 free throws to the Celtics 38 (in Game 2). But in this game, you're talking about a team shooting 27 free throws in the closing quarter of a decisive game that would put out the defending champs."

Best of all, Christie blames the Kings' loss in the 2002 series on the public's negative view on his relationship with his wife.

"People look at champions different," said Christie. "My wife and I were ridiculed in the press for our close relationship. But now when you see Kobe and other players kiss their wives, it's chic. So what if we win the championship that year? Maybe that validates our relationship. Instead of being ridiculed, maybe they say 'they're great people.'"

Ugh, no. You were ridiculed because your wife treats you like a child. We would make fun of you whether you had a championship ring on your finger or not.
