Emeka Okafor Locked Up Long Term with Bobcats

The Charlotte Bobcats have locked up their F/C Emeka Okafor long term. The fourth-year player has signed a six-year $72 million deal.

Bobcats GM Rod Higgins confirmed the deal to Charlotte reporters Tuesday.

"It was very important for us to get a deal done," Higgins told The Associated Press. "He creates a sense of security around the basket for us. He's a guy that I think his skills are still developing in a lot of ways. Having Larry as our head coach now, Emeka will benefit having a great coach to teach him."

Okafor was the Bobcats No. 2 pick in the 2004 NBA draft.
