Just a day after winning the NCAA Men's National Title thanks to a 75-68 overtime victory over Memphis, Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self is a wanted man.
And guess who's come calling? Self's alma mater, Oklahoma State.
On June 1st, the Cowboys parted ways with former coach Sean Sutton - son of legendary coach Eddie Sutton - apparently in a power play move to bring Self to town. It is believed Okie State has offered Self a staggering $6 million signing bonus and a contract believed to pay out $3 million per year. The Cowboys are in a position to do so thanks in large part to billionaire alumus Boone Pickens, who gave a reported $165 million to the school's athletic department.
Many believe Self has to at least consider the gig, for a number of reasons. The Okie State job will have decidedly less pressure to it than the Kansas job, where a National Title will now be demanded almost every year. Coaching at Phog Allen has always been a huge pressure cooker and it doesn't figure to get any easier now that Kansas has won its first NCAA crown in 20 years. Self would also get to return to his Oklahoma State roots, remain in the Big 12 and build a program in a similar fashion to how he built the Jayhawks and, prior to that, the Illinois Fighting Illini and Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
So the question will loom: Does Bill Self leave the University of Kansas?
