Jimmie Johnson's 4th Straight NASCAR Championship Still Not Cool

Say what you will about the man, but Jimmie Johnson's 4th consecutive Sprint Cup victory is impressive. And it's not like he's retiring from the sport, either. (AP Images)

Quick show of hands, folks: How many of you are stoked to see Jimmie Johnson win his fourth straight NASCAR championship? Now how many of you aren't even a little bit embarrassed by the fact that you've watched more NASCAR than NFL these past couple of months? Thought so.

Johnson's fifth place finish on Sunday was good enough to give him the Sprint Cup and as a result he's the first person to win four straight NASCAR championships.

It's not exactly the coolest sport out there (and I have a few friends who think Formula 1 is pretty cool in comparison), but   you have to admit there's something about NASCAR that makes you want to crack open a cold Bud and salute the man whose individual achievements rank up their with Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Roger Federer; and whose consecutive Sprint Cup championships won by Johnson's No. 48 team (Hendrick Motorsports) is every bit as great as the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Boston Celtics, New York Yankees and Montreal Canadiens.

That's what they're saying, anyway.

"You definitely have to put him there now," said Johnson's Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr. "He was already there before. Four in a row, man! Why can't they go for five? That team is that good."

Whether you love him or hate him, over the last eight years Johnson has collected 47 wins and four titles, which not only makes him the best driver of the past decade, but also one of the best drivers the sport has ever seen.

And yeah, I'll admit to being a NASCAR fan. There's no shame in admitting you like fast cars.
