Josh Barnett vs. Jeff Monson, Gracie at Sengoku II

Top-ranked heavyweight fighter Josh Barnett, seen here attacking Jeff Osborne, will fight Jeff Monson in Japan.

Matchmakers for World Victory Road have announced that former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett (21-5) will fight one-time UFC heavyweight title contender Jeff Monson (24-7) at the next Sengoku event.

The two will clash on May 18 at the Ariake Colisseum in Tokyo Japan.

Barnett is coming off a win, defeating national judo hero Hidehiko Yoshida (7-6-1) in March at the first Sengoku event. It was the first fight for "The Babyface Assassin" in over a year.

Monson is also coming off a win, with a unanimous decision victory over Dutch fighter Hakim Goram (4-3) in Ring of Fire. Since losing by unanimous decision to Tim Sylvia (24-4) in November of 2006 at UFC 65: Bad Intentions, Monson has gone 2-1 in mixed martial arts.

The card also features Bodog Fight veteran Jorge Santiago (16-7) facing Yuki Sasaki (21-13-1) in a rematch of a bout originally meant to happen at a Strikeforce event in November of last year. In that event, Sasaki did not pass his medicals and was forced to withdraw from the middleweight tournament. Santiago knocked out his replacement Sean Salmon (14-5) and went on to beat Bodog Fight champion Trevor Prangley (17-5) in the finals.

World jiu-jitsu champion Roger Gracie (1-0) will also fight on the card.
