According to a source close to the situation, Indiana Hoosiers coach Kelvin Sampson faces the possibility of suspension as a precursor to being fired.
The news broke late Wednesday night courtesy of ESPN.com's Pat Forde. Forde learned that Sampson faces three possible scenarios:
- Suspension and subsequent dismissal.
- Opportunity to resign.
- No immediate action, continue investigation.
The source then said that the first option was the most likely while the third was the least.
Sampson has come under fire in recent weeks after NCAA sanctions based on a recruiting scandal. The restrictions he faced were similar to the ones he came under fire for at Oklahoma, where he was embroiled in a phone call fiasco before leaving for Indiana.
Despite all the issues surrounding the program, the Hoosiers themselves have been fine. The team scored an 80-61 win over Big Ten rivals Michigan State (No. 17, AP) despite losing All-American F D.J. White to a knee injury early in the game.
