Looking Ahead to UFC 100: Georges St-Pierre vs. Thiago Alves

It takes a lot to knock Georges St-Pierre out of the main event picture – specifically Brock Lesnar. But fight fans are still salivating over the welterweight title bout at UFC 100 (July 11, Las Vegas) between St-Pierre and Thiago Alves. St-Pierre (18-2 lifetime) is at the top of his division according to Sherdog, and the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world behind Anderson Silva. Alves (16-3) is ranked second among welterweights after defeating Karo Parisyan, Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck in 2008.

St-Pierre goes into Mandalay Bay as a –325 favorite, and for good reason. He’s dominated his last five fights in a row since that surprise loss to Matt Serra (+850) two years ago at UFC 69. That loss prompted a change in management and lifestyle that has served St-Pierre very well up to this point. Alves (+250) isn’t likely to catch him on a bad day.
