After 16 seasons as one of the top hitting catchers in MLB history, Mike Piazza has decided to call it quits.

"After discussing my options with my wife, family and agent, I felt it is time to start a new chapter in my life," he said in a statement released Tuesday. "It has been an amazing journey ... So today, I walk away with no regrets."

He finished his career with 396 homeruns, easily the most for a catcher and had a .308 batting average.

In his career he played with the LA Dodgers (1992-98), Florida Marlins (1998), New York Mets (1998-05), San Diego Padres (2006) and Oakland (2007). His most memorable years were with the Mets.

"I have to say that my time with the Mets wouldn't have been the same without the greatest fans in the world. One of the hardest moments of my career, was walking off the field at Shea Stadium and saying goodbye. My relationship with you made my time in New York the happiest of my career and for that, I will always be grateful."

One of the main reasons Piazza probably retired is nobody wanted him. He didn't re-sign with his last team, the A's, after the 2007 season, and hasn't been able to sign with another team since.
