This is the time of year when baseball heroes are made. And not all of them were members of the New York Yankees.
- 1903: Bill Dinneen wins clinching game for Boston in first modern World Series; establishes American League as competitive with National League.
- 1918: Babe Ruth wins two games, knocks in two runs in Red Sox series victory.
- 1929: Jimmie Foxx goes 7-for-20, hits home runs in each of his first two World Series games as Philadelphia Athletics beat Chicago.
- 1948: Player-manager Bruce Boudreau leads Cleveland to its most recent World Series victory.
- 1972: Gene Tenace hits four of Oakland’s five home runs, A’s beat Reds in seven.
- 1977: “Mr. October” Reggie Jackson hits three home runs in Game 6 as Yankees beat Dodgers.
- 1993: Joe Carter hits walk-off, series-winning home run in Game 6 against Philadelphia’s Mitch Williams.
