The Pirates snapped a season-high eight-game skid with a 7-1 rout in the opener on Tuesday. Zach Duke allowed four hits over eight innings, and rightfielder Brandon Moss had three hits, including a solo homer and two RBI.

After beginning the season by winning his first four starts, Joel Pineiro will try to avoid his third consecutive loss for the Cards.

Pittsburgh has been able to hit Pineiro hard. He was 1-1 with a 7.48 ERA in four starts against the Pirates last season, and is 3-1 with a 5.35 ERA in six career starts. The Pirates' Ross Ohlendorf will try for the third time this season to notch a win over the Cardinals. The Cardinals are 4-1 in the last five meetings with the Pirates.
