The Boston Red Sox look to avoid suffering a sixth consecutive defeat for the first time in nearly three years tonight when they face the Baltimore Orioles, losers of nine straight at Fenway Park.

Returning home to face the AL East rivals Orioles seems like an ideal way for the -155 favored BoSox to get back in the win column.

The Red Sox have averaged 4.6 runs and batted .252 while going 24-25 on the road. They’ve been far better at home, averaging 5.6 runs and hitting .271 at Fenway Park, where they have the best home winning percentage in baseball at .689.

The Orioles fell to 1-14 on the road against AL East teams in 2009 after losing their last three at Yankee Stadium.

The Orioles might be encouraged that Brad Penny will start for Boston. The righthander gave up eight runs in three innings in his first career start against Baltimore on April 17.
