MLB Report: Indians Sign Flamethrower Carmona to Multiyear Deal

There's some heat a-risin' on the Cuyahoga river.

Today, the Cleveland Indians announced the signing of 24-year-old Fausto Carmona, meaning they'll be keeping the dynamic pitching duo of he and C.C. Sabathia in Cleveland for this year at least.

Carmona is coming off a breakout 2007 campaign where he won 19 games for the AL Central champs. This season, he's picked up where he left off, winning his first start of the season while boasting an eye-popping 0.69 ERA.

The deal is believed to be worth $43 million over sever years, with the first four guaranteed for $15 mil. It's believed to be the highest guaranteed contract in MLB history for a player with one one year of service time to his resume.

The Indians must now turn focus to inking Sabathia, who rejected an initial offer from the club during spring training. He also cut off all negotiations until the season was complete.

The Carmona signing does ink up another key youngster for the Indians. Cleveland has already locked up Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez.
