One of the biggest names in professional wrestling is ready to make his mixed martial arts debut.
On Saturday, June 2, former WWE champion Brock Lesnar (0-0-0) will step into the ring in Los Angeles as K-1 presents Dynamite USA!
Before entering the world of professional wrestling, Lesnar was the 2000 NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion for the University of Minnesota. Following his final match at Wrestlemania XX, Lesnar left the WWE to follow a career in the NFL and played for the Minnesota Vikings as a defensive tackle but was cut from the team in April, 2004 after missing several practices due to an injury sustained in a motorcycling accident. On Tuesday, May 15, the California State Athletic Commission announced that they had cleared Lesnar for MMA competition.
His opponent will be 7-foot-2, 363-pound South Korean Hong Man Choi (1-0-0). Also known as “The Techno Goliath”, Choi began his fighting career in Ssireum wrestling. In 2005, he made the switch to kickboxing, winning the K-1 World Grand Prix in Seoul, Korea. Choi is no stranger to trading blows with other giants, and has beaten Akebono, Bob Sapp and Semmy Schilt during the course of his kickboxing career. In 2006, he made his MMA debut, defeating Bobby Ologun (2-1-0) in just 16 seconds.
Choi vs. Lesnar is the co-main event of Dynamite USA, and shares the top-billing with the Royce Gracie (13-3-3) vs. Kazushi Sakuraba (21-9-1) rematch.
