Bodog Nation: The California State Athletic Commission recently reported that following your fight with Bobby Southworth at the Playboy Mansion, you tested positive for "barely discernable" levels of a banned substance. Shortly afterwards, you released a statement saying you'd taken an anti-inflammatory "anabolic agent" to deal with chronic joint inflammation in your hip. Can you elaborate?

Bill Mahood: I've been dealing with a chronic hip injury for a long time. The first time I ever saw a sports doctor about it must’ve been 10 years ago, before I started fighting, and he said, "If it hurts, don't do it." We all know how well that works. So, then I went to a naturopath who gave me the typical glucosamine and chondroitin, and that really didn't do anything. Since then I've seen a chiropractor, a massage therapist and a physiotherapist who specializes in body alignment. Plus, I gobble Robaxacet and ibuprofen by the Costco container. This has been an ongoing thing for a long, long time, and it’s only gotten worse since I've continued to train more.

BN:  Ouch.

BM: There was an anti-inflammatory anabolic agent available that supposedly was really good for helping gimped up joints, so I thought, "Let's give it a try and see if it works. There's almost no side effects, no health issues, and if it can fix my hip, maybe it can make my life a little easier." So I started on the third week of August.
