Internet street-fighting legend Kimbo Slice (1-0-0) is ready to move from fighting in backyards and parking lots on youtube.com into the arena of professional mixed martial arts.
On Saturday, Nov. 10 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Slice will make his professional mixed martial arts debut against fellow heavyweight slugger Bo Cantrell (10-10-0). Following a win over former boxing champion Ray Mercer in an exhibition match, Slice says he's looking forward to starting his pro fighting career.
“I’ve worked really hard on my wrestling and jiu-jitsu.’’ he says. “It hasn’t been easy. I’ve never trained as hard. Training has never been as intense. I am totally committed. I’m for real at this and not short term, but long term. I am not a novelty act. I mean business. I am coming to bring the noise. I work extremely hard. There are critics who don’t think I can do this, but I am going to prove them all wrong.”
At 240 pounds of lean muscle, Kimbo won't be easy to beat, but Cantrell says he isn't scared of his opponent's size or his many backyard streetfights. "I had my share of them in Oregon before getting a shot at the real shows,’’he says. "To beat Kimbo would give my career a gigantic boost.’’
