Internet street-fighting legend Kimbo Slice (1-0-0) is officially signed to fight mixed martial arts veteran David “Tank” Abbot (9-13-0).
The fight will happen at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 6 “Heavy Hands” on October 12 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, according to CFFC matchmaker Gary Marino.
“Tank” has been on a losing streak lately, dropping seven of his last eight fights. His last match, an April 21 TKO loss to British kickboxer Gary Turner (3-0-1) in London, was his third defeat in a row.
Slice, who rose to fame and fortune by uploading videos of his street fights onto internet file-sharing sites, has just one professional mixed martial arts fight; a June 23 win over former WBO boxing champion “Merciless” Ray Mercer at CFFC 5. The fight lasted just over a minute, as “Kimbo” applied a guillotine choke to submit the helpless boxer, who had made the comment before the fight, “Boxing is my thing and I will use that in this street fight."
While Kimbo taught Mercer the difference between fighting in the street and in professional mixed martial arts, his fight against Abbot could very well be the sort of drop-down drag-out war that fans were hoping to see against Mercer.
