The Portland Trailblazers got Brandon Roy back and that wasn’t good news for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Last year’s NBA rookie of the year put up a double-double (20 points, 12 assists) as the Blazers upset the Lakers, 119-111, Friday night. Portland was a home underdog as the point spread favored L.A. by seven. But with Roy back in the lineup after missing two games with an ankle injury, the Blazers pulled away from Los Angeles.
The loss ended the Lakers’ 10-game winning streak, a run that saw their NBA championship odds shrink to 7/1.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 22 points and Jarret Jack had 21 points and 10 assists for Portland. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 33 points.
In other NBA action on Friday:
Houston 116, Memphis 95: No Yao Ming, no problem for the torrid Rockets. Tracy McGrady’s 25 points led Houston to its 14th straight victory, one off the franchise record. The Rockets won their second in a row without Yao, who is lost for the season because of a broken foot. Houston covered the 13.5-point spread at home.
Boston 108, Charlotte 100: Ray Allen had 23 points and Kendrick Perkins added 19 to lead the Celtics to a victory at home. The Bobcats did manage to beat the point spread, which favored Boston by a whopping 18.
Miami 103, Seattle 93: Dwyane Wade had 31 points as the Heat won just their third game in their last 30. Miami was a two-point favorite in Seattle.
Dallas 115, Sacramento 106: Dirk Nowitzki had 34 points and Jason Kidd had 21 ponts and nine assists to lead the Mavericks at home. The Kings barely beat the 9.5-point spread.
Denver 110, Los Angeles Clippers 104: Allen Iverson (38 points) and Carmelo Anthony (30) combined for 68 points to lead the Nuggets at home, where they were favored by 14.5.
